Remove "Decade" dropdown from Timeline

The timeline is not suitable for events of the past year, or even the past ten years, because of the decade dropdown. Can that be removed/optional?

Can you clarify what specifically about the decade dropdown is causing an issue for recent events? I’m not quite following. Thanks!
