I sumitted the following request to DWS:

Please reuse the existing field, field_image_caption, to add a caption to the featured image in the news content type. Please note that the alignment of the featured image can be set by the field, field_image_alignment, so the new caption will likely need to change position based on that field as well. Otherwise, the caption should look like featured image for the blog content type for visual consistency. Let me know if you have any questions or if you need me to make the backend field change.
